Australia Scores High on Tech Usage Scale

Australia has placed number seven, just ahead of Britain, Japan and Canada, on The Connectivity Scorecard, the annual rankings on the usage of telecommunications technologies.

High mobile phone use

The index, created by London Business School professor Leonard Waverman in 2008, measured 50 countries on numerous indicators, including technological skills and usage of communications technology such as networks, mobile phones and computers.

Sweden took the number one spot over the US, followed by Norway, Denmark, The Netherlands and Finland. Countries in eastern and southern Europe - including Italy, Spain, Greece and Poland - took the last spots on the list of 25 developed countries. According to researchers, the new indicator is already used by several countries in developing innovation strategies.
